Breast Reduction Surgery and Scarring
Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia in a surgery center or hospital in about two to four hours and you may return home following your procedure. There is no need for an overnight stay. Post-surgery discomfort is considered to be moderate and is well-controlled with pain medication.
Any bruising or swelling encountered will improve in two to four weeks with the bandages being removed in one to seven days and stitches are usually the dissolvable kind so they don't need to be removed. You can resume your exercise routine in two to four weeks and return to work in one to three weeks.
Breast reduction surgery does result in some scarring. Fortunately, the scars can be limited to areas hidden with undergarments. The scars will fade after surgery, but in some cases, will take many months to do so.
Some risks involved with breast reduction surgery are infection, bleeding, an appearance of unevenness and healing problems. These risks can be reduced if you are in good general health and follow Dr. Hendricks' instructions. It is always advised to stop smoking two to four weeks before any surgery to minimize healing problems.
If you have given some thought to breast reduction surgery, but still have questions that have gone unanswered, please contact Dr. Hendricks of Pacifica Cosmetic Surgery Center in Newport Beach, California today to schedule a consultation to address those concerns and allow you to make a well-informed decision about breast reduction surgery.
