SmartLipo Risks and Complications

As with any surgical procedure, there are certain risks associated with laser liposuction. Choosing an experienced, reputable doctor like California cosmetic surgeon Douglas Hendricks, M.D will greatly decrease the possibility of any side effects, while providing optimal results that you will feel great about.

Potential Complications and Limitations of SmartLipo

Complications with SmartLipo are extremely rare, although there is a small risk of infection. Some patients also experience minor swelling and bruising that subsides within a few days typically.

After laser liposuction, some patients experience:

  • Skin dimpling
  • Discolorations
  • Numbness
  • Lumpiness
  • Scarring
  • Sagging skin

SmartLipo cannot reach the fat deep in your body that surrounds your internal organs. It is only designed to remove up to 15 pounds of fat, so if you wish to have more than that removed, SmartLipo is not for you.

This procedure is performed under local anesthetic which eliminates the risk associated with general anesthesia. Patients with diabetes, heart disease, liver disease or a history of blood clots have an increased risk of complications from this liposuction procedure. Dr. Hendricks will discuss your medical history in detail during your consultation to evaluate your health and candidacy for SmartLipo.

If you are interested in how SmartLipo can help you, please contact the Pacifica Cosmetic Surgery Center today to arrange a consultation.
